About Me

I suppose I'm a bit of a cliché in that I've just always been sporty for as long as I can remember.  At school I was in every team going, I was always tall for my age so got selected for all the jumping and hurdling athletics, and then hockey became a big part of my life.  From around 12 - 29 I was a descent hockey player playing club & County level, then on to play for uni and then when work took me to live in Bath, I played for Bath Buccanears for 7 years.

In 2001 after I'd been living in Bath for a few years when one of my best friends entered the London Marathon and decided to run the Bath Half as training and persuaded me to join her, and that was it, I've raced at least once a year since.  In 2006 I gave up hockey and running just became my way to stay fit and happy.

I remember absolutely hating that first race, I have dodgy ankles from so many hockey injuries and my lasting memory of that first half marathon was sitting with St. John's at about mile 10, crying with an ankle the size of a melon and feeling horribly sorry for myself!!  But eventually I pulled up my big girl pants, went back out and finished.  I think it took me somewhere close to 2hrs 15 mins (there was no smart watches or Strava then!!) and I'm sure I muttered things like "never again" and "I hate running", but somewhere a seed was sown and the rest as they say, is history.

I'm now officially in my late 40's, and have had a go at most running events in the past 24 years.  Some I've enjoyed, some not so much, but so far, all but 1 have been finished.  I've run more 10kms and Half Marathons than I can count, and have completed the Edinburgh Marathon and London 3 times - the high being London 2017 and the low being London 2018, that's how the cookie crumbles!

I ran my first Ultra (any distance over 26.2 miles) in 2015 and my first multi-day event in 2021.  Things change and our interests move with where our heart and body take us, and for the past 10 years going longer and slower are definitely the events that I crave.

If I'm not planning a big race then I'm planning a big hike or mountain climb.  I'm lucky enough that my husband shares my passion and we get to do all these things together, and if we're in the UK then we'll be out doing them with our dog.   If you want to know more about my racing and mountain adventures then check out my blogs.  Otherwise that's it, that's a bit about me.

I hope you enjoy my blogs and find them interesting, educational and perhaps insightful.  If there's anything you'd like to ask me or perhaps want me to write more about then get in touch, it would be lovely to hear from you.
